Since we did the Hour of Code last year, we've had an enormous upswell of interest in coding. Students have continued to use Lightbot throughout the summer and are still excited by solving the puzzles presented in the program. We now have several apps and more online coding tools, as well as the Wonder Workshop robots, Dot & Dash.
We're going to begin with an experimental 3-week session, 8 students once a week for 20 minutes on Friday afternoons. This may not be enough time for very much actual coding, but it will introduce students to several different coding tools and give them time to interact with me in a small group. Later, if this is successful, I'd like to arrange some follow-up groups to get students using Scratch, Tynker and more advanced applications.
If your child is interested in learning more about coding, ask your teacher to sign them up for the Coding Club. You can also try the links here.
