Educator Pernille Ripp, founder of the Global Read Aloud, says this about "Why the GRA?" Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them. That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people. You can show them pictures of kids in other countries but why not have them speak to each other? Then the caring can begin. | For the second year, Bryant students will be participating in a project called the Global Read Aloud. It starts at the beginning of October and runs for approximately 6 weeks. The idea behind it is very simple: teachers around the world read the same book aloud to their students, then use technology to share the reading experience with other classrooms. During the project, kindergarten and first grade classes will be reading picture books by author/illustrator Yuyi Morales, while second graders will be reading a chapter book, Stella Diaz Has Something to Say. Starting in mid-October, first and second grade students will use tools such as Seesaw to connect with students around the world who are reading the same books. Millions of students participate all around the globe every year This project will allow for our students to use technology tools in a meaningful way, as well as learning about other cultures while listening to a fantastic read aloud. |
I look forward to learning, growing, and sharing with Bryant students, as well as seeing the connections we will make!
