| This is a very silly holiday - which is just my style. I can't resist silly. But it's a great opportunity to talk about fiction (stories) and nonfiction (information)! Second graders watch on the projector as I model using the library catalog to look up books and briefly review the differences between number books and letter-labeled books. Pretty soon they will be learning to do this themselves, so it's a perfect beginning. With younger students, I often read my two favorite pirate books: How I Became A Pirate (1st) and Bubble Bath Pirates (K), but there are lots of other great choices. Giles Andreae has two books about pirate dinosaurs that are just fantastic. |
If you're looking for something a little more down to earth, I adore The Pirate of Kindergarten. Ginny doesn't realize she is the only one who sees two of everything until she gets to kindergarten. Her eye patch gives her a way to overcome her difficulty. Incidentally, you can search the Bryant library yourself by visiting our home page and clicking Library Catalog. If you want any books, feel free to check them out by emailing me and I'll send them home in backpack mail. Easy! | |
